This fresh, tropical island green smoothie happens to be my favorite, and can be enjoyed with a sprinkle of lime for some tart healthy smoothie goodness!

Island Green Smoothie - a delicious smoothie cup with a lemon wedge

A lot of my summer mornings begin with a healthy smoothie. This fresh Island green smoothie happens to be my favorite, and since they’re so quick and easy to prepare, you’ll often find me enjoying a big tall mug of this for breakfast or on my way to work! This smoothie has easily become a staple at my kitchen table because of how quick it is to rustle up and prepare, and how healthy it is! It’s not unusual for me and my hubby to grab a cup of this early in the morning (sometimes even sipping on it as we drive). Hubby, who seems practically immune to brain freezes usually gulps his down in 5 minutes while I tend to savor mine slowly. This tropical green smoothie includes papayas, honeydew melons, pineapples, spinach and a load of coconut water to complete the island theme. If this does not give you the feeling of sitting on an Island beach sipping some local beverage, it will at least keep you healthy enough to make that happen in real life!

While I used coconut water in this recipe, I have sometimes substituted it for almond milk because of how easy it is to prepare homemade (check out this vegan milk chocolate recipe where I talk more about that) and because of the extra creaminess it adds to the smoothie. I also usually add some yogurt or some chia seeds if I want a massive burst of proteins and major nutrient boost without the extra calories.

How to Make an Island Green Smoothie

I made my Island green smoothie using a handful of frozen cut up honeydew melon, frozen bananas, cut up fresh pineapples, fresh spinach, coconut water and a couple of lime wedges.

Island Green Smoothie Ingredients: Spinach, coconut milk, papaya and honeydew melon on a table
Island Green Smoothie Ingredients: Sliced Bananas, pineapples, papaya and honeydew melon

Simply chuck all the ingredients in the blender and blend till smooth.

I love the deep green flavors of this! I was curious to get to the ingredient list to see what was getting you the color. The spinach I am guessing? I tend to stick with fruit in my smoothies, need to try adding some green veg inspired by this.

Thanks David! Yes, the spinach is the source of the green color.
